MOTOTRBO Application Developers Summit

Motorola announce today the details of the MOTOTRBO Application Developers Summit. This event will take place at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation, Florida on September 24 and 25. If you are into two way radios, this sounds like a really good event.

I've mentioned before in several articles about the MOTOTRBO, that its platform allows for expandability. Analog radios have always been basically "what you see is what you get". Two way radios haven't changed a lot over the years. In fact, HermsDigital recently wrote a post about the changes in radios over the past 3 years.

The MOTOTRBO, on the other hand, is like Facebook, where you can build applications to customize your needs. An example of a MOTOTRBO application is a telemetry system, which sends data and instructions over a wireless network. A more granular example would be having an electronic door open when the radio is nearby.

This conference sounds like a lot of fun. I am interested in how creative engineers have gotten with MOTOTRBO applications.

MOTOTRBO Rebates

CommUSA has announced a rebate package for MOTOTRBO radios. They are offering $1,000.00 off 10 Mototrbo's when you trade in 10 radios or push to talk cellular products. This is a good deal because:
  1. Get rid of old two way radios.
  2. Upgrade to the newest technology.
  3. Save $1,000.00!
Analog radios are going to be extinct in a couple of years. The MOTOTRBO is a digital two way radio, but it has the option to be used in analog settings. It's been around for about a year and a half now. I personally like the radio because it is water resistant, and has a lot of open source applications.

New two way radio chargers from Motorola

Motorola has released a couple of new chargers for the Pro-series and MOTOTRBO series. These chargers are compariable to the Motorola WPLN4187 and WPLN4212 models.

These chargers have displays that show:
  • Battery capacity and voltage while charging and at completion of charge.
  • Time remaining to complete rapid charging (NiCd and NiMH only)
  • Current battery charge status.
  • The battery's unique serial number, part number and chemistry.
Part numbers of the new Motorola chargers:
  • WPLN4181a: XTS MUC with one display
  • WPLN4239a: MOTOTRBO multi unit charger with one display.
  • WPLN4144a: Pro Series - these radios start with PR (PR400, PR860) and has one display.
Motorola usually releases one new radio a year, but often release new two way radio chargers or other accessories.

What's new with Motorola two way radios?

Motorola two way radios have been a staple communication device for ages. They have a very rich history and played a role in the building of the most wide-spread communication tool, the cell phone.

With the MOTOradio blog, here on blogger, my intentions are to keep everyone up to date with different two way radio products, such as the Motorola CP200 or the new MOTOTRBO XPR6500. The former is one of America's most favorite walkie talkies, and the ladder is Motorola's newest communication tool. It is part of the MOTOTRBO family, which are digital and really next generation.

Stay tuned, as more info about Motorola two way radios is on the way!
